The competencies of the Directorate-General are listed in the Decree 87/2003 of 14 July through which the Administrative Organs of the Department of Institutional Relations and European Affairs are set up.

1- To channel the management of all affairs with Europe and its Institutions as well as the information for the citizens without prejudice of the competencies which are attributed to the Departments regarding the subject.

2- To carry out studies and reports related to the Community Politics, adaptation, application criteria, spreading and general information of the Community regulations as well as to coordinate the inter-administrative relations.

3- To manage the assistance and subventions for cooperation projects for the development of the third-world countries.
